About

Anna Barford is based in the Faculty of Modern & Medieval Languages and Linguistics. She is Director of the Business Fights Poverty Institute, a consultant to the International Labour Organization, and an associate of the Young Lives project. She sits on the CHIA Steering Committee, writes for The Conversation, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Research

Anna’s research focuses on:

  • Work and employment in relation to sustainability, climate change, and corporate responsibility
  • The use of Natural Language Processing to support societies in low-resource settings (with projects in Nepal and Uganda)
  • Living wages, social responsibility, and the circular economy
  • Youth employment, gender, and unpaid work, including projects in Africa and Asia
