About
Sharan Maiya is a researcher at the intersection of machine learning and causal inference, with a focus on environmental and health-related applications. His recent work involves using causal discovery algorithms and targeted causal learning to estimate dose-response relationships between air pollution (particulate matter) and lung function, drawing on data from cities including London and Delhi.
Originally from Glasgow and based in Edinburgh since 2016, Sharan holds a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics and an MSc in Statistics from Imperial College London. He is deeply committed to addressing environmental risks and advancing AI safety, spanning both immediate ethical concerns and long-term risks associated with transformative AI.
