Cambridge and CHIA Host Training Camp for the UK’s Artificial Intelligence Olympiad Team
16 April 2026
Last weekend, CHIA helped facilitate a residential training camp for high school students participating in the UK Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence at historic King’s College, Cambridge.
The UK Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence is a national competition for students to earn places on the UK team competing in the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, which is being held later this year in Kazakhstan.
We welcomed eight students from around the UK to Cambridge for the weekend, where they received lectures in AI, completed practice papers, and participated in team building activities. The students had the opportunity to tour King’s College, eat in its historic dining hall, and go on a punting tour on the River Cam during their weekend in Cambridge.
To reach the invitation-only training camp weekend, students had to complete an exam that included questions testing their programming and mathematical abilities in deep learning, take an online UK Olympiad in AI test, and do an interview with a UKOAI mentor during which their problem-solving skills were further tested.
Four participants from the residential training camp will be selected to represent the UK at the International AI Olympiad in August 2026.
Good luck to the UK team competing in Kazakhstan later this year!
