About

Jim Ang is an Affiliated Fellow at CHIA, where he researches new approaches to AI that emphasise relationality, empathy, and contextual knowledge rather than automation or optimisation. He studies AI systems that collaborate with people, support human judgement, and are responsive to local contexts and environments. His projects include AI clinicians and assistive agents for dementia care, support for family caregivers and bereavement, and place-based AI to enhance the resilience and health of local communities.

He is also a Professor in Computing at Kent and Medway Medical School, University of Kent, and a Visiting Professor at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. In addition, he serves as Academic Co-Director of the Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries at Kent, where he leads the Institute’s research strategy, focusing on AI, creativity, and wellbeing.
