About

Johan Högberg is an Affiliated Fellow at CHIA, where he researches the health and societal impacts of environmental and occupational exposures, with a particular focus on how AI can support the generation and evaluation of the scientific evidence needed for cancer research, chemical risk assessment, and public health decision-making. His work combines toxicology, risk assessment, and AI to improve the understanding, evaluation, and prevention of environmental health risks.
 
He is Professor Emeritus of Occupational Toxicology at the Department of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, where he has led research on chemical carcinogenesis, occupational health, and toxicological risk assessment for several decades. Alongside his research, he has played a leading role in national and international risk assessment, including serving as Chair of the Swedish Criteria Group for Occupational Exposure Limits for twenty years.
