About

Lucy Cheke is an Associate Fellow at CHIA and Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Cambridge, where she is a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology, Theme Lead for Neuroscience, Psychology and Behaviour at the School of Biological Sciences, and Director of Studies for Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at Sidney Sussex College. She is also a member of Cambridge Neuroscience, the Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience Institute, and the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, where she co-directs the Animal-AI initiative.

Research

Lucy’s research focuses on:

  • Episodic memory, episodic foresight, and causal reasoning
  • The relationship between memory and health conditions, including obesity and long COVID
  • Translational cognition: adapting animal cognition tasks for use in human and AI contexts
  • Cross-species approaches to understanding intelligence, including the Animal-AI testbed for evaluating artificial systems
