Malak Sadek

About

Malak is the MPhil Deputy Director and a Teaching Associate at CHIA. She holds the Humane Studies Fellowship from the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University, the Rising Leaders Fellowship from Aspen Institute UK, and an Associate Fellowship from Advance HE.

She has a PhD in Design Engineering from Imperial College London. She also has a Master’s degree in Human Computer Interaction from the University of St Andrews, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering with a minor in Digital Media from the American University in Cairo.

Malak has also had several years of experience consulting for companies on how to create human-centred AI products, and working with UN Women UK, the Alan Turing Institute, Bold Insight, and AIxDesign.

Research

Malak’s research focuses on:

  • The intersection of AI and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
  • Aligning conversational AI with human values
  • Designing human-centred AI experiences through participatory approaches
